UPDATE – Result: Roger Federer beat Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-4
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have played 27 times now before, with Rafa leading 18-9. On hard courts however, the head to head is in the balance, with each having won five times in the past
Interesting to see also that whereas Nadal was a fantastic starter in his ATP, Masters and Major careers, piling up the titles from a young age, Fed has been a more consistent performer over the years, and if you compare the two by age, they are now at Nadal’s current age quite similar in terms of age. Yes, Roger is “catching up”!

Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer, Saturday second semifinal probably around 1pm local time (8pm GMT)
Following their bruising semis and finals at the Australian Open, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have chosen different paths for the month of February.
We’ll see Federer reappear first as he features in the Switzerland vs USA Davis Cup tie on home ground in Fribourg from February 10th to 12th. With a win hopefully under his belt he’ll head to Rotterdam for the ABN AMRO ATP 500 event, and then on to Dubai at the end of the month.
Rafael Nadal on the other hand has chosen (perhaps out of necessity?) to take some rest, and we hope to see him rejuvenated and mentally toughened after that extremely demanding final in Australia against Novak Djokovic when he kicks off the USA hard court section of the tour in Indian Wells from March 8th.
Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic in the exhibition match in Colombia – 7-6, 6-3
After a late arrival (7am instead of midnight) due to weather conditions, the two played with a lot of intensity and a few smiles and jokes along the way.
Nole asked for the organisers to play “Gypsy”, and showed off his dancing skills with the assistants, to make fun of Rafa, who took the gently ribbing with laughter.
In the press conference, Nadal made it clear how he considered Nole to be his main candidate for taking over the number one position.
“Many thanks for the warm welcome you have given us. The exhibition was great!”, he said before heading to dinner tonight in Bogota.
Nadal flies out to Miami on Tuesday for the next ATP Masters Series 1000 event.
Rafa and Nole – Twice in about 24 hours, chance for Nadal to revenge the Indian Wells defeat
First in the Indian Wells final, into the private jet to fly to Bogotá, then an exhibition match in Colombia and back up to Miami!
The exhibition match, which has been described as the “most important event in the history of tennis in Colombia,” will be played on a hard-court and is a best of three sets. It starts at 5pm Bogotá time, which is 10pm GMT.
The date was carefully chosen by the players to fit in between the Indian Wells and Sony Ericsson tournaments coming up on the North American hardcourt section of the ATP tour.
UPDATE – Djokovic beat Nadal: 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Congratulations to Novak Djokovic, Indian Wells champion for 2011!
Now Rafa and Nole will be getting on the private jet, heading to Monday’s rematch in the exhibition in Bogotá, Colombia, before returning to the Miami Master Series later in the week.

UPDATE – Nadal won 6-4, 6-4 and Djokovic won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Federer and Wawrinka lost the doubles, 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-7
Rafael Nadal lost the last three matches he played against Juan Martin Del Potro, but still leads the head-to-head 4-3 – it will be a close one today, hope to see Rafa scrape through.
Roger Federer is also looking to break some winning streaks – Novak Djokovic has won his last 18 matches straight – and the last two against the Swiss – though Fed still leads the head-to-head, 13-8.
Once he has had a rest, Federer will come back to the court with Stanislas Wawrinka, to see if the Olympic champions can claim the Indian Wells doubles title against Alexandr Dolgopolov and Xavier Malisse.

A strange day ahead for friends and Swiss compatriots Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka.
First they play against each other for a spot in the semifinal, then they return to the court together to face none other than Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopez in the double’s tournament. Talk about switching sides!

UPDATE – Nadal fought back to win 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 while Federer and Wawrinka won 6-1, 7-5 in doubles.
Rafael Nadal’s match against Croatian Ivo Karlovic will be the toughest challenge yet at Indian Wells for the Mallorcan this year.
Although he is ranked only 239 in the world right now, that is due to the six months Karlovic was out and recovering from injury in 2010. Rafa has always had a tough time overcoming the big server, who is a former top twenty player.
Nadal has a 3-0 in the head to head – all have been well contested matches.
Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka finally get their chance to play for a spot in the semis. If they can beat Mark Knowles of the Bahamas and Michal Mertinak (Slovakia) we will be able to look forward to them playing Nadal and Lopez.

Rafael Nadal will play a third qualifier in a row, Indian Somdev Devvarman for the first time.
The Indian had the pleasure of facing Roger Federer early this year in Dubai (he lost) and now has a chance to face the world No. 1. Devvarman is ranked 84th in the world.
Roger Federer will have a similar match, against the young 152nd ranked Ryan Harrison meeting for the first time.
Doubles action returns tomorrow.
