Australian Open – Federer vs Del Potro, Nadal vs Berdych

Juan Martin Del Potro - Link to ATP Profile

UPDATE: Result – Roger Federer beat Juan Martin Del Potro 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 and Rafael Nadal beat Tomas Berdych 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, 6-3. Nadal vs Federer semi time! :)

Roger Federer plays Juan Martin Del Potro, who seems to be somewhere near the peak of the form he was in before a year or more of troublesome injuries. Before those injuries, he’d beaten Fed twice in a row, though the overall count is against him – 7 matches to 2.

Rafael Nadal will play Tomas Berdych, who he leads 10-3 in the head to head, having won the last seven matches between the two… hopefully a good omen that, knee-permitting, Rafa can progress to the semifinals for the first time in 3 years.

Paris Masters – Federer vs Berdych

UPDATE – Result: Roger Federer beat Tomas Berdych, 6-4, 6-3 to reach the Paris Masters final for 2011.

Roger Federer has a 9-4 lead in the head-to head with Tomas Berdych, but he lost the last time the two met, this year in Cincinnati as well as in two of their three matches in 2010.

Does the Czech have another win up his sleeves?

Cincinnati Semifinals – Murray vs Fish, Djokovic vs Berdych

Mardy Fish - Link to ATP Profile

Results: Andy Murray beat Mardy Fish 6-3, 7-6 and Novak Djokovic beat Tomas Berdych 7-5, and retired

Mardy Fish has reigned it over Andy Murray in recent times, having won the last three match ups and leading 4-3. Given Murray’s inconsistency this year, and Fish’s great run of form, I back the American to repeat last year’s final appearance.

Novak Djokovic on the other hand – who would dare to bet against him?! He struggled yesterday in the beginning against Monfils, but came back hard to take out the match, and as his 6-1 lead over Tomas Berdych indicates, he should also be good for yet another 2011 Masters final.

Cincinnati – Nadal vs Fish, Federer vs Berdych

Mardy Fish - Link to ATP Profile

Results – Mardy Fish beat Rafa Nadal 6-3, 6-4, Tomas Berdych beat Roger Federer 6-2, 7-6.

Rafael Nadal has won all six previous matches against Mardy Fish. He will hope to build on a tough win over Fernando Verdasco yesterday to go one better than last year when he went out in the quarters to Marcos Baghdatis.

Roger Federer had some troubles against Tomas Berdych in 2010, losing two of the three matches they played, though he leads 9-3 in the all time head to head.

Internazionali BNL d’Italia – Rome Draw!

Rafael and Roger Federer in the same half again, possible semi meet up.

With the Madrid final still to play, the Rome action is well under way.

Here is my pick on seed and form as to who they are likely to have to win in order to meet in the semis and progress to a possible final.

Both Nadal and Federer look to have a relatively easy run to the quarterfinals where they could meet David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych respectively. Having said that, Rafa’s first opponent Bellucci is in great form and that could be a big upset in the making…

Rafael Nadal – likely Rome opponents:

First round: bye
Second round: Tomaz Bellucci
Third round:  Mikhail Youzhny
Quarter finals: David Ferrer
Semifinals: Roger Federer
Finals: Novak Djokovic

Roger Federer – likely Rome opponents:

First round: bye
Second round: Jo-Wilfred Tsonga
Third round: Richard Gasquet
Quarter finals: Tomas Berdych
Semifinals: Rafael Nadal
Finals: Novak Djokovic

Miami – Nadal vs Federer

UPDATE – Nadal beat Federer 6-3, 6-2 and will meet Novak Djokovic in the final

Finally! Rafa and Roger meet in a competitive match for the first time since the ATP finals.

Rafael Nadal leads the head to head 14-8 over Roger Federer, but on hard courts Roger leads 4-3.

Both are in great form, so this could go either way. Picks anyone? :)

Miami – Federer vs Simon, Nadal vs Berdych

UPDATE – Federer beat Simons (3-0, retired)

Roger and Rafa face two tough opponents Thursday. If they win, the reward is a match against each other in the semis.

Roger Federer faces a player who has troubled him a lot in the past – Gilles Simon. The Frenchman leads 2-1 in the head to head, but has fallen in the rankings from a promising high of No. 6 in 2009 to No. 27 today. Will be a very interesting match.

Rafael Nadal on the other hand will play 7th seed Tomas Berdych for the first time this year. Nadal has won the last eight times the two met, with a 9-3 lead in the head to head.

The reward for both, if they win will be a Nadal vs Federer match up in the semis. Hope on hope we get that :)

The draw for the World Tour Finals 2010 was made in London yesterday, at the Galleria Pall Mall.

Below are the groups and the first up opponents for Rafa and Roger.

As expected, their No.1 and 2 seeding means they are in separate groups, and if they are to meet that will come in the latter stages. The top two from each group will progress to the semifinals.

The action gets underway this Sunday, 20th November.

GROUP A

Rafael Nadal
Novak Djokovic
Tomas Berdych
Andy Roddick

GROUP B
Roger Federer
Robin Soderling
Andy Murray
David Ferrer

Roger Federer’s first match will be on Sunday, not before 8pm local time, against the seventh seed David Ferrer of Spain.

Rafael Nadal will start on Monday, also after 8pm, and will face the American Andy Roddick (8th seed).
