Rome Masters – Nadal vs Federer Final Impossible

Link to official tournament website

The draw is out for the Rome Masters (Internazionali BNL D’Italia) and Rafa and Roger have been drawn on  the same side of the table, so a theoretical meeting between the two would be in the semis.

The other top seeds on Nadal’s sides are Soderling, Berdych and Monaco, while Federer’s opponents could include Cilic, Ljubicic and Querrey.

So who is your pick? Could Rafa or Roger go on to match Agassi’s all time record of 17 Masters Titles (right now they are tied on 16) or could someone else come through?

I think the money has to be on Rafael Nadal. His form in Monaco was simply majestic, and the King of Clay should be well rested after skipping Godo in Barcelona last week for the first time in 6 years.

But don’t count out Roger, and keep an eye out for a few other hungry challengers including Novak Djokovic, Robin Soderling or strong Spanish clay court contenders such as Verdasco, Ferrer or even Ferrero. I personally don’t rank Andy Murray in this – his head’s in the wrong place and clay isn’t his surface – perhaps he’ll prove me wrong :) .

So here’s to a great tournament!

Nadal Wins Again – Montecarlo Champion!

After an incomprehensible 11 month drought, Rafa is well and truly back with a vengeance!

And what a way to win – poor Verdasco looked like a struggling amateur on court compared to mighty Rafa in his very best clay court form, hammering home the victory in a ridiculous 6-0, 6-1.

Rafa’s now resting in Mallorca, preparing for Rome after having taking the decision to sit out Godo in Barcelona.

Well, I have to say I am damned pleased that he will take a break – it shows he is learning from last year’s bad experience and will be better prepared for the great events in Rome, Madrid and of course Paris in the coming weeks.

It shows all the signs of being an immense season for him. Should we even dare to dream of four from four?

Rafa, King of Clay, welcome back :)

Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters – Live TV – Nadal vs Berrer

Having come through strongly by obliterating Thiemo De Bakker 6-1, 6-0 in the second round is looking in good form to achieve a sixth successive Monte-Carlo title. Michael Berrer stands in his way.

The last and only time the two met previously – in Indian Wells last year – Nadal gave away just 3 games. It is hard to see Berrer doing any better on clay, though his upset over Juan de Monaco yesterday would suggest he is in good form.

Sony Ericsson Open – Miami – Live TV – Nadal vs Roddick

Free Live TV over internet – links at end of this post

Two of the three highest ranking players remaining face off as the world number four (for now – he’ll go to three on Monday) and seven battle for a final spot.

Nadal and Roddick have a head to head of 5 to 2 in favour of the Spaniard – Rafa won the last three and the way he swept Tsonga off the court, to my mind he is back near his very best and a clear favourite to take out this title
