UPDATE: Result – Roger Federer beat Andy Murray to win yet another title! 7-5, 6-4
Roger Federer will play Andy Murray for the ATP Dubai title.
The two have met 14 times before, and the Scot is one of few players to have had the better of Fed today – leading 8-6 in the head to head.
Ticketsraleigh.net I highly recommend it for Tickets in Raleigh, NC for Casting Crowns, Tab Benoit, Excision, North Carolina Symphony at Ticketsraleigh.net in The Ritz, and Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

One thing for sure is that we’ll see a fantastic match of tennis in Sunday’s Australian Open final. What are the points to consider in who will win? Here is how they stand:
In Nole’s favour:
- “Owned” Rafa in 2011, destroying him in six finals, dropping only three sets
- Has won twice at Australian Open, making this his most successful Major
- Undisputed Number One, riding high on confidence
- Superb all round game, his serve and backhand are superior to Nadal’s, and is able to match him in defensive play. Spectacular form in attacking from the base line.
In Rafa’s favour:
- Despite the memory of 2011, still leads the head to head 16-13. Rafa remembers beating Djokovic, if not the 2011 model Djokovic
- An extra rest day, with a relatively easy 4 set win compared to Nole’s almost five hour marathon finishing 43 hours before final time
- Ten Grand Slams, 14 finals – superior experience when it comes to the crunch of five set Majors
- Enormous confidence boost from a fantastic win over Fed in the semis.
- The guy you just cannot grind down over five sets, the rough and tumble spirit of body and mind that will see him win
Yes, I pick Rafa to win this one, and start a great year with Majors in Australia, France, and possibly Wimbledon.
UPDATE: Result, Nadal lost to Djokovic in the longest final in Grand Slam history, finally going down to 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5. Congratulations to both, and especially Nole for this tremendous performance which will surely go down in history as one of the very best tennis matches ever.
Nadal leads 16-13 in the head despite losing six finals on the trot to Djokovic in 2011.

Result – Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal to claim his first US Open title. Congratulations Nole on a sensational match and victory.
Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal have played a grand total of 28 times, with the Spaniard still holding out with a 16-12 lead, despite Nole’s sensational inroads in 2011, when he has won five straight.
Rafa will have to be at his very best today, and probably even then hope Djokovic drops form for a few patches if he is to win, such has been his play of late. I pick five sets, and Nadal to just come through on experience and will to win.

UPDATE – Andy Murray defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4, 3-0 after the Serb retired with a sore shoulder.
Can Novak Djokovic continue with his absolutely phenomonal year and make it a 100% success rate at Masters events in 2011 (he did not play in Monte-Carlo, which Rafa won), or will Andy Murray overcome the great Serb, who leads 6-3 in the head to head?
It will surely to be get a snapshot of how big the difference really is amongst the top four – I’m going to step out on a limb and predict an upset – Murray in straight sets.
Why? All winning streaks end, and Nole’s time is up – no rhyme nor reason, just a feeling

Result - Novak Djokovic beat Mardy Fish, 6-2 3-6 6-4 to win a record fifth Masters in a single year and further extend his lead over Nadal and Federer in the rankings.
Although in theory he had the tougher draw, it was Novak Djokovic who pulled through, again.
Today in Montreal he will play Mardy Fish for a seventh time – and threateningly for the American, Djokivic won all previous matches.
Still, Mardy Fish will look to take advantage of this dream run and claim an upset. But I pick Djokovic in straight sets.

UDPATE – Result – Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal, 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 to claim his first Wimbledon title. Congratulations Nole!
Rafa plays the soon to be new No. 1, Novak Djokovic in their fifth final of 2011. Can Nadal turn around the previous four losses and claim his third Wimbledon title?
With his 16-11 head to head lead, ten Grand Slams, two Wimbledon titles (and 2 other finals), you would think Rafa would be the runaway favourite for Sunday’s final. But Nole has been astounding in 2011, and so I think we are headed for another humdigger.
My pick is Rafa in five. (And I’ve picked a few right recently )

UPDATE – Result – Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer, 7-5, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 to claim his record equalling sixth Roland Garros title, his 10th Grand Slam, and to retain his ATP Number One position – congratulations Rafa, and also to Roger for a fantastic tournament!
To date Rafa leads the head to head (16-8) and in Grand Slam finals (5-2). This will be the first time the two meet in a Major final since the 2009 Australian Open (Nadal won), almost two and a half years ago!
So what, apart from the glory of the Roland Garros title itself, is at stake in Sunday’s historic encounter? If Federer wins, he will:
- Have 17 Grand Slams, three clear of second best Peter Sampras
- Have beaten Rafa to win a Roland Garros title, adding legitimacy to his GOAT (Greatest of All Time) legacy
- Have solidly demonstrated that the Rafa-Nole show is really the Rafa-Nole-Roger show.
If Nadal wins he will:
- Match Bjorn Borg on 6 Roland Garros titles
- Claim his 10th Grand Slam
- Stay at No. 1, just keeping Djokovic at bay, at least for a few more weeks
