Rafael Nadal beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-0, 6-2, 6-4 and Spain are through to the Davis Cup finals against Argentina!
Earlier, on day one, Rafa had beaten Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-0, 6-1 to help Spain to a 2-1 lead over France, while Roger Federer brought Switzerland back to even in their tie against Australia by beating Lleyton Hewitt, 5-7 7-6 (5) 6-2 6-3
On Sunday, Spain lost the doubles, bringing the score to 2-1 – now Rafael Nadal is playing the reverse singles against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Roger Federer also joined Stanislas Wawrinka for the doubles rubber which was played Friday overnight European time, losing 2-6, 6-4 6-2, 7-6(5). He then went on to beat young Bernard Tomic to bring the tie to a cliff-hanging 2-2. With the final match tipped 5-3 in the fifth and final set, darkness led to the match being carried over to Monday morning Australian time.

Davis Cup Tie – Spain vs France – Live TV Streams (Free)
Rafael Nadal vs Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, 12 midday (10am GMT)
After both being brutally knocked out of the US Open by the same supreme force (Novak Djokovic – Federer in semis and Nadal in finals), our champions now move on to Australia and Spain to join the Swiss and Spanish Davis Cup teams.
Roger Federer arrived in Sydney, Australia yesterday with the memory of the tough five-set loss to Novak Djokovic in the US Open semis fresh in his memory. He will have two days to prepare on the grass courts of the Royal Sydney Golf Club before joining Switzerland in their world group play off tie.
Rafael Nadal has arrived in Cordoba, Spain where he will maybe be featuring in Friday’s singles matches for Spain against France in the semifinals of the main Davis Cup event.
Albert Costa, the Spanish captain has not said whether Rafa will play yet saying, “we are going to see over the next two days how he is. Of course, if Rafa is well, he’ll play.”
Result – Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal to claim his first US Open title. Congratulations Nole on a sensational match and victory.
Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal have played a grand total of 28 times, with the Spaniard still holding out with a 16-12 lead, despite Nole’s sensational inroads in 2011, when he has won five straight.
Rafa will have to be at his very best today, and probably even then hope Djokovic drops form for a few patches if he is to win, such has been his play of late. I pick five sets, and Nadal to just come through on experience and will to win.

UPDATE: Novak Djokovic came back from 2 sets and 2 match points down to beat Roger Federer, 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5. Rafael Nadal beat Andy Murray, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to join Djokovic in Monday’s final
Roger Federer has a 14-9 lead over Novak Djokovic, and beat him the last time they met (in the French Open this year). So who will it be – the greatest player in history of the man headed for one of the best years ever seen in the history of the sport?
With a small triumph of hope over logic, I’m picking Fed to come out scorching and knock off Nole in a stunning three straight sets.
Rafa Nadal will be relieved to have come through against Roddick with ease, saving energy for the tough match against Andy Murray.
Again, I pick our man in straight sets, leaving both our champions fresh for Monday’s Nadal vs Federer final.

Although now 29 years old, and having fallen out of the top 20 for the first time in almost 10 years, Andy Roddick remains a formidable opponent, particularly on the home hard courts of Flushing Meadows.
The head to head favours Rafa 6-3, but this will be a very tough challenge for the World Number Two. I pick Nadal in four, and a lot of nerves and great tennis along the way.

Roger Federer has lost his last two matches this year against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Those matches were on the grass of Wimbledon and the hard courts of Montreal, allowing Tsonga to come close to matching Federer in the all time head to head between the two players, which now stands at 3-2 in Fed’s favour. I’m picking Roger to get revenge, in four sets.

Result: Rafa Nadal beat Gilles Muller 7-6, 6-1, 6-2 and will play Andy Roddick in the quarterfinals.
Rafael Nadal has played Gilles Muller three times before, one of which he lost (Wimbledon 2005). Although Muller is in could form, Rafa should be far too good, as he builds momentum towards a position in the last eight.

Result – Update – Rafa Nadal beat David Nalbandian 7-6, 6-1, 7-5
Rafael Nadal has had a mixed bag against David Nalbandian in the past – losing twice in 2007 before bringing the head to head back to 2-2 with wins in 2009 and 2010.
It is clear he will have to be at the top of his game to overcome the Argentine, who seems to be finding form again after a patchy recovery from hernia and hamstring problems.
