UPDATE – Result – Rafael Nadal beat Andy Murray 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 to reach his fifth successive Wimbledon final (2009 excluded due to injury)
By the time Rafa takes the court, he will already know whether he will emerge from Wimbledon as No. 1 or No. 2 in the world (if Djokovic beats Tsonga he will take over the top position on Monday, even if Nadal wins the tourney). Regardless, he will be pumped for this one.
Rafael Nadal leads Andy Murray 11-4 in the head to head, including having beaten him twice before on the grass of Wimbledon (both in straight sets). Although Murray is definitely improving, I still think Rafa will make it through, but not without a fight – Nadal in four.

Rafael Nadal vs Andy Murray, Friday, after completion of the other semifinal (Djokovic vs Tsonga, which starts at 1pm – 12 midday local time)
Roger Federer has played Jo-Wilfred Tsonga five times before, and leads the head to head 4-1 – with the solitary loss coming back in 2009.
And although the Frenchman has seen off some strong opposition from the likes of David Ferrer, I will still favour Fed to go through to the semis in straight sets.
Rafael Nadal leads Mardy Fish five to nil, and even though it is tempting to make angling jokes here, being that Rafa’s favourite pastime and all, I will settle to say that the Mallorcan also should be too strong, and will march through also to fry bigger… well you get it, in the semifinals.

UPDATE – Results – Rafael Nadal beat Juan Martin del Potro, 7-6, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 and Roger Federer beat Mikhail Youzhny, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3
Nadal will play Del Potro for a chance to progress to the last eight, while Federer has perhaps a slightly easier match against Mikhail Youzhny
Rafael Nadal leads Juan Martin Del Potro by five to three in the head to head, but there was a time back in 2009, before Del Potro’s bad injury, that the Argentinian was all over Rafa – winning three matches in succession and dominating the matches.
Is Del Potro back at that 2009 level? His form suggests yes – this match will be very close and I pick a long, long match going to five sets and Rafa…just…scraping through.
Roger Federer has played Mikhail Youzhny ten times, and won every single match – in fact he only dropped 2 sets, and the most recent of those, in 2003!
Well, times may change and winning runs are for breaking, but still I cannot see Fed letting any sets go on Monday. Federer in three.

UPDATE – Result – Roger Federer beat David Nalbandian, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4
The Argentine, David Nalbandian is similar in age to Roger Federer and holds a rather special distinction of having won all five of the first matches the two played against each other.
Since then however, Fed has won a few back, and now leads the head-to-head 10-8. So given recent form, we have to consider the Swiss to be outright favourite, and I pick Roger to win in four sets.

UPDATE – Result – Rafael Nadal beat Gilles Muller 7-6, 7-6, 6-0
Incredibly, Rafael Nadal will face a player who beat him the last time the two played – and on the courts of Wimbledon no less.
Yes, back in 2005 when Rafa was a 19 year old still developing his grass court game, he was beaten by the now 28 year old, 92nd ranked Luxembourg player, Gilles Muller. The two also played on clay that year, with the win to Nadal in Barcelona leaving them on level pegging 1-1 in the overall head to head.
On Friday, expect a more mature Nadal to overcome Muller in straight sets, but it will not be all one way traffic.

UPDATE – Result – Roger Federer beat Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.
The 22 year old Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, ranked 52nd in the world has never played Federer before, and I anticipate he will have a lot of trouble staying within shouting distance of the Swiss champion, who comes into the match looking simply imperious…

UPDATE – Result – Rafael Nadal beat Michael Russell 6-4, 6-2, 6-2
Rafael Nadal will play Michael Russell for the first time.
Ranked at No. 91 and aged 33, Russell should not represent a big challenge for Rafa, who will be looking to get some time on the court and into a good rhythm on grass.
Roger Federer will have his first match on Tuesday against Mikhail Kukushkin.
