UPDATE – Results, Federer beat Melzer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 and Nadal beat Mathieu 6-4, 6-2, 6-2
Sunday is a rest day at Wimbledon and play will resume on Monday.
Roger Federer will face Jurgen Melzer.
They’ve not played before, but Melzer has been in good form, is ranked a career high 16, and has beaten some good players this year on clay (including Djokovic, Verdasco).
If he wins, his reward will be a place in the final eight to continue that record streak .
Rafael Nadal will be playing Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu.
They’ve met nine times before, and the Spaniard has just dropped two sets and never lost a match.
Rafa will surely be hoping for a quick three set win in order to take the strain off the weary body after two long five setters, but Mathieu will surely have other plans

Roger Federer vs Jurgen Melzer
Monday – Starts 1pm local time, midday GMT (first match of the day on the Centre court)

Rafael Nadal has played German Philipp Petzschner twice before, with easy straight set wins on both occasions. Let’s see if he can build on the form he seemed to come into in the last two sets of the five set win over Dutchman Robin Haase.
I pick Nadal in straight sets (well, I said that against Haase too ).

UPDATE – Result – Federer beat Clement, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2
Roger Federer made it through another round, this time dropping a set to world No. 152 Ilija Bozoljac. Now he has a seasoned veteran, Arnaud Clement of France to beat, and how will he fare?

UPDATE – Result – Rafael Nadal beat Robin Haase, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3, 0-6, 3-6
Rafael Nadal has never played the Dutchman Robin Haase before.
It should be an easy match – Haase is ranked 151 in the world. My guess is Nadal in straight sets.

Roger Federer had a right royal battle on his hands in the first round, but managed to come back from the death to win in 5 sets.
How will he fair against world No. 152 Ilija Bozoljac? They have never played before, in theory though it should be a pushover for Roger… will the real Fed please step up?

Rafael Nadal will be hoping that his first match goes smoother than Roger Federer’s five set win over Falla.
Certainly, Nishikori should be easy pickings for the Spaniard, but sport (think World Cup Football) does not always follow the script of favourites and the young Japanese star will be gunning for an upset.
Still, I pick Rafa in three.

The Wimbledon 2010 draw has just been held, and of our two Number One’s, Roger Federer was given the tougher draw.
Roger’s going to have to get past some really hard grass court players if he is to achieve a record-equaling seventh Wimbledon title.
The biggest three obstacles for Federer are:
- Andy Roddick (last year’s finalist)
- Novak Djokovic (world number three)
- Lleyton Hewitt (former world number one, Wimbledon champion, and victor over Federer in last week’s Halle final.
Rafael Nadal has probably two serious contenders if he is to reach a final and challenge to repeat his 2008 title:
- Andy Murray – world number four and home crowd favourite
- Robin Soderling – in form Roland Garros finalist
Federer will start on Monday against Colombia’s 65th-ranked Alejandro Falla. He has never lost a set in the four previous occasions he has played Falla, the most recent win being last week at Halle.
Nadal will plays Kei Nishikori first up – they have met only once before, at Queens in 2008, when Nadal managed to win, despite dropping a set against the young Japanese promise.
So who is your pick for the Wimbledon Championships 2010?
I’m going to be gunning for a Federer vs Nadal final (surprise!).
If both make it that far, I seriously believe it will come down to determination, endurance and that Rafa will take it out 3 sets to 1.
Suspect I might regret being so brave before the tourney even starts .
Wimbledon is the only major to retain independence on seedings, and that has sprung a surprise in this year’s listings – Federer is seeded Number One, and Nadal as Number Two.
I personally think this is great. Out with the generic all-surfaces use of the ATP rankings and in with some individuality. Of COURSE Roger is number one on grass right now. He is defending Wimbledon and comes off a final in Halle while Rafa has only played 3 matches on the surface in the last year.
But grass is not played all that often these days, hence the need to factor other surface performance into the equation, and a one-two ranking for our two favourites is entirely appropriate in my mind.
Draw tomorrow, can’t wait to see how the matches fall!

Roger Federer safely negotiated his opening match at Halle, beating Jarkko Nieminen 6-4, 6-4.
Meanwhile, Rafa is preparing for his first match at Queens – the doubles match due yesterday was postponed to today due to time constraints, and he is also due to go on court against Marcos Daniel. They played just once before, at Roland Garros last year where Nadal beat the Brazilian in straight sets.
