Nadal takes his revenge in Bogotá

Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic in the exhibition match in Colombia – 7-6, 6-3

After a late arrival (7am instead of midnight) due to weather conditions, the two played with a lot of intensity and a few smiles and jokes along the way.

Nole asked for the organisers to play “Gypsy”, and showed off his dancing skills with the assistants, to make fun of Rafa, who took the gently ribbing with laughter.

In the press conference, Nadal made it clear how he considered Nole to be his main candidate for taking over the number one position.

“Many thanks for the warm welcome you have given us. The exhibition was great!”, he said before heading to dinner tonight in Bogota.

Nadal flies out to Miami on Tuesday for the next ATP Masters Series 1000 event.

Rafa Nadal vs Kevin Spacey :)

Well not quite the regular ATP event, but the two did duke it out on the table tennis courts during the recent Laureus Sports Awards

Here’s how it went:

He came, he saw, he conquered – Rafael Nadal takes Rome!

Number 4 - good for Rafa, great for Mallorcan dentistry

Rafael Nadal faced tough opposition today from Novak Djokovic, but was just way too good, and he jogged off with the title in two sets, 7-6, 6-2.

Novak pushed him hard all the way, but the man from Mallorca is playing in a different category to the rest these days, and the only thing we can take away from this great match was its terminal sense of inevitability.

The win notches up quite a series of milestones for Rafa including:

- 30 unbeaten matches on clay – that’s over a year of invincibility

- Fifth title already of 2009

- 15th Masters Series title now topping Fed’s 14 and just two short of all time best, André Agassi (17 titles)

- Improved to 147-6 on clay since 2005, including 16-0 in 2009.

After the match, Rafa told reporters:

The Rome Masters is a really important tournament for me.

I am delighted to have won again in Rome and to have achieved this record. It’s a great feeling to win in front of this crowd. I congratulate Djokovic for a great match, and I will be back next year.

Congratulations Rafa, and VAMOS á Madrid y París!

Roger boils over and smashes racquet – video

It is rare to see Federer’s feelings come to the surface, but he seems to have finally reached tipping point – and in what a spectacular fashion indeed!

With the match evenly poised at one set each, but down a break in the third to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of Miami, Roger went for a forehand drive but as has been too often the case in recent months, the shot flopped into the net and boom – Fed lost it.

What followed was a beautiful reshaping of the racquet in the very best guitar smashing style, followed by a mini-tantrum as he tosses the water bottle over his shoulder at the break.

Have a look for yourself…

Could this be the moment we’ve all been waiting for? It sure looked cathartic, and the immediate follow up (breaking Novak’s serve in next game) if not the final result (out of tourney) was not.

Is this the moment when the great Fed finally realises that he needs to make changes to his game? Work on that single handed back hand, adjust the forehand drive, hey, maybe even get a coach?

Don’t get angry Roger, get even!

The Rafa Nadal Song

The Spanish Davis Cup team dedicated a song to Rafael Nadal during the tie in Benidorm!

Cup team-mate Feliciano Lopez was apparently the lead singer and instigator of this instant crowd hit!

Lyrics:

Por eso yo, te quiero dar
Rafa, mi corazon
Yo te sigo en todas las partes
Gracias por ser español

Translation:

That is why, I want to give you
Rafa, my heart
I follow you everywhere
Thank you for being Spanish

Lalalalalala, repeat until hoarse!

EDIT March 11th:

Apparently the tune of this song is from an original track from an Argentinian group called “La Mosca Tse Tse” Called “Yo Te Quiero Dar”, and it is used with different lyrics to support various football teams. Go to Minute 1:33 of this video to see where Feli “borrowed” this from!
